Tax Free Weekend in Iowa!

Get your back-to-school shopping done this weekend (if you don't mind the crowds).

August 6-7, 2010 is Tax Free Weekend in Iowa on clothing and footwear (though most athletic shoes are still taxed).

If you can't go this weekend, just take a trip up to Minnesota any day of the year....it's always tax free.

The Club at Jordan Creek

Join "The Club" at Jordan Creek and get lots of deals throughout the year.

They just sent out an email this week for a $10 gift card for tax free weekend, just for being in The Club. You just have to print the email and bring it to the customer service desk....pretty nice getting things for free! A friend told me about it and said she doesn't get too many emails from them, not crowding her inbox, but when she does, they are good deals.

Going out of town to a Macy's?

Alright, there isn't even a Macy's in Iowa! Why am I putting anything about Macy's on the blog?

Well, if you are from out of state visiting a Macy's department store, you can go to the customer service desk, show your out of state drivers license and get a coupon for an extra 20% of your total that can be used on top of any other discounts....not bad!

AmesEats.com Coupons and Discount Card

A new site, to me at least, in Ames is AmesEats.com This is a website run by the Iowa State Daily. They list a bunch of Ames restaraunts along with their menus and their special deals (like their happy hour deals, etc). They also have coupons for certain restaraunts on the site.

I guess they have a discount card too. From what I can gather, you just go by the Iowa State Daily office in Hamilton Hall and pick up a card. The details are sketchy on this. Then with this card you get 10% off all participating restaraunts. Here's the list of restaraunts If anyone knows any better details, let me know.

Coupons on Ames CVB website

I found some good coupons to use on the Ames Convention and Visitors Bureau website. It is a pdf that you can print off. They are the "Ames Red Carpet Coupons". I'm pretty sure this is a set of coupons that I'll just print off and keep in my purse for when I happen to need them.

http://www.visitames.com/docs/AmesRedCarpetCoupons.pdf

It's also a good website to visit to learn about all that is happening in Ames, a lot being free...good free date ideas!

Hobby Lobby 40% off Coupon is Back

Hobby Lobby (at least for this week) once again has their 40% off of anything in the store coupon.

http://hobbylobby.com/weekly/coupon.cfm

Fareway's Competitor's Ad Prices

Just thought everyone should know that if you see a price advertised at another grocery store (mostly Cub and HyVee), Fareway sees it also and almost always already has the prices changed in their store to match (including HyVee's Hot Deals which are great deals). They also take coupons from any competitors

Evert's 20% off on Wednesdays

Downtown Ames at Evert's, every Wednesday you can get 20% off on everything in the store. So next time you shop there, wait until Wednesday to buy it and save!

Kids Days at Younkers Friday March 26-Saturday March 27

Once a season, Younkers will put their new kids clothes on sale for 60% off for a Bonus Buy.

They have their Carters, OshKosh, Puma, and Adidas Spring/Summer clothes on sale for 60% off. You won't get them at this price again until they go on clearance later in the season. The most they go other times is 40% off.

Also, they have their Easter dresses on sale for 50% off.

On Saturday they will have face painting and other kids things in the store starting around 11am but if you want the best deals/size options...go today!

Hobby Lobby Coupons

Sad news for Hobby Lobby shoppers!

I guess they don't feel like always having 40% off coupons online anymore...so unfortunately, instead they just have random coupons for certain specific items in the store. For instance, this week, the coupon is for 30% off unfinished craft wood.

If they would have asked me, I would have told them that this was a bad idea. I mean, what are the odds that this week you really need unfinished craft wood and are excited about this?

But alas, I my opinion was not sought in this decision by Hobby Lobby! I'll go now and shed a tear for bargain hunters. Hopefully Hobby Lobby will soon come to my (I mean their) senses.

Ann Taylor Loft Discount for Teachers

I know we don't have and Ann Taylor Loft in Ames, but if you venture down to Jordan Creek...and you're a teacher, sign up for a teacher discount at:

http://loftlovesteachers.com/

You can get 15% off your total! That adds up when you tack it on to a sale price (even if they have a percentage off the sale price, you still get an extra 15% on top).

Wish I was a teacher!

Reiman Gardens Membership

Thinking about taking the family over to Reiman Gardens? You probably have to think twice about it when you see that it costs $7 per adult over 18 and $3 for kids 4-17. You could easily spend $20 for a family of 4 for 45 minutes of fun...then what if your kids really like it and want to go back again?

Consider buying a household membership for the year at $55.
Reiman Gardens Membership
It's good for a whole year and you can still visit the butterfly gardens and the indoor garden through the winter (although I think the butterfly garden is closed for a bit). Trust me, this is much more entertaining for kids (and adults) than hanging out at the Burger King playland in the winter! Grandparents can also buy this household pass to bring along all of their grandparents for free.

It's a great place for younger kids, especially the kids garden and butterfly garden.

Party Supplies Going Out of Business Sale

Nevada, Iowa has a party supply store that is going out of business and everything is marked right now at 40% off. I got a call about this, but don't even know the name of the store right now. I'll update this as soon as I do. I'm guessing that the prices will keep dropping too. Sorry that I don't have more info right now!

Super Savings Cards

For $10 you can buy yourself a Super Savings Card for Ames that will save you much more than $10 over the year. It's good until 3/1/11

Best yet if you buy it from a kid, $8 of every $10 goes strait to help kids go to the national Evangelical Free Church conference.

Kid's Eat Free (or Cheap) Night

Where to go with kids when you don't want to pay! All these deals are good with a paying adult.

I need help keeping this updated so if you know of anything let me know!

Sundays:
Legend's American Grill-Kids Eat Free (or any day when kids wear sports outfits, so throw your ISU sweatshirts in the car and head over)
http://www.legendsamericangrill.com/

Okoboji Grill-Kids Eat Free before 2pm
http://www.okobojigrill.com/

Tuesday Nights:
Perkins-Kids Eat Free after 4pm
http://www.perkinsrestaurants.com/

Valentino's-Kids Eat Free night
http://www.valsames.com/
This is a great place to take young kids anyway, as it is $ .60 per year for them to eat and they have a great buffet that your kids will love (including mac and cheese pizza).
On Tuesdays, they really do it up for Kids Eat Free night. Not only do they eat free, but they get to make their own personal sized pizzas from 5:30-7:30pm to bring home and bake later, so really it's 2 free meals!

Fazoli's-Kids Eat Free 5-8pm

VF Outlet in Story City

Don't forget that we have an outlet mall just 10 miles North of Ames, VF Outlet.

Stores include the main VF store (selling Jansport, Vanity Fair, Wrangler (Brett Favre's favorite), Lee, and Nautica).

They also have a Factory Brand Shoes store, a Bass store, a party supply store, a kitchen store, and a Danskin, and probably others I can't remember.

If you're going to do big shopping at VF (need some new underwear, perhaps) here's a coupon to print and use for $10 off a $100 purchase:

Coupons Hobby Lobby and JoAnn's

First, never pay full price at Hobby Lobby! If' it's not already on sale for 50% off, and you can't wait until the next week for it to most likely be marked 50% off, you can always print off a coupon online for 40% a regular priced item and bring it in. The coupons are only good for one week so you have to print a new one each week you want to use it.
http://hobbylobby.com/weekly/coupon.cfm

Also, if you are going to JoAnn's, they almost always have 40% off coupons in their weekly ads. They keep their ads in the front of the store, usually between the two sets of doors. Sometimes they run out later in the week. So earlier in the week you have a better chance of saving.

Deals on Housewares

Target this week has lots of housewares on clearance.

Need sheets? Along the back wall of the housewares section there are a bunch of sheets, comforter sets, etc on sale for 30-75% off.

Need Curtains? They have a bunch of them right now for at least 50% off (mainly their Room Essentials brand)

Perhaps a shower curtain? Lots of those on clearance this week too at 30-50% off.

For diaper shoppers: they have a deal where if you buy three Jumbo sized bags of Pampers diapers (around 30, give or take) you get a $5 gift card, and they are on sale for $8.99 rather than $9.99. I did the math, and this was not actually a good deal (perhaps you saw me standing in the diaper aisle with my calculator on my cellphone)!
